Course objective
Lions Eye Institute has a bunch of well-trained
ophthalmologists in IOL microsurgery. To create more ophthalmologist efficient
in IOL microsurgery, Lions Eye Institute & Hospital has introduced hands training
program in cataract surgery (both Phaco & SICS) for ophthalmologists. So
that these ophthalmologists can provide quality cataract surgery to the
patients of their community in different part of this country and abroad.
Highlights of the course
LEIH has wet lab facility which provides
phacoemulsification training on animal/simulated eyes. Candidates will
have exposure to the phaco machine prior to performing real time
surgery.
Access to various standard and modern phaco machine and foldable IOLs
Various video assisted lectures including
Phaco Dynamics, Phaco Techniques, Newer Phaco Technologies, Phaco in
Challenging new Cases, Newer IOLs etc.
Various video assisted lectures on different steps of SICS.
Surgeries supervised by senior instructors until
surgeon gains confidence to perform independent surgeries
Postoperative review of cases by Professors
Maintenance of case records for future personal use
Course Schedule for Phaco-Surgery
1st
& 2nd week: Wet lab practice on goat or simulated eye, becoming
familiar with different aspects of phaco machine, observing Phaco
surgery.
3rd & 4th week: Performing SICS confidently, Phacoemulsification Step surgery under supervision.
5th & 6th week: Indenpendent Phacoemulsification surgery under supervision.
Course Schedule for SICS
1st,2nd and 3rd week: Wet lab practices on goat or simulated eye, observing SICS performing by consultants.
3rd week: Performing Steps of SICS under supervision
4th to 8th week: Independent SICS under supervision
Program Details
Eligibility Criteria
Qualified practicing Ophthalmologist with
post-graduation degree in Ophthalmology recognized by BMDC/from
recognized university(foreigners). Who will apply for Phaco-surgery,
must be competent in SICS.
Duration: 6 weeks for Phaco Surgery/ 8 weeks for SICS.
